Trust & Safety

How PianoShare keeps every booking safe for students and owners alike.

Making real pianos reachable again.

PianoShare started from a simple observation: thousands of acoustic pianos sit unplayed in living rooms, churches and studios, while thousands of students practice on digital keyboards because a real instrument is out of reach.

We built a marketplace that puts the two together. Owners list their own piano and earn something from an instrument that benefits from being played regularly. Students get access to grand and upright pianos before auditions, exams and performances, without the cost or commitment of owning one.

Where we are today

We're currently focused entirely on Louisville, Kentucky, so we can get listing quality and the experience right in one city before expanding. The architecture behind PianoShare is built to support many more cities — Louisville is simply where we're starting.

What we believe

A piano is more useful played than stored. Students and owners are capable of working out the details of a booking — and the payment for it — between themselves, without a platform standing in the middle.

What PianoShare does — and doesn't — handle.

Every booking on PianoShare involves a student entering someone else's home, and an owner welcoming a stranger to their instrument. Here's exactly what the platform does to support that, and what's left to you.

Owners approve every request

Nothing is booked automatically. Every request goes to the owner, who decides whether to accept it.

Payment is between you

PianoShare does not process, hold, or touch any money. You and the other person agree on how and when to pay directly.

Approximate locations

Listings show a neighborhood only. Exact addresses are something you exchange directly once a request is accepted.

Clear house rules up front

Every listing states its own house rules so expectations are clear before you request a session.

Use good judgment

As with any marketplace connecting strangers, meet in good faith, communicate clearly before your first session, and treat the arrangement — including payment — as something you're both responsible for.
